One of the best ways to keep an eye on your environment is to have a nice overview of the key data points that indicate potential failure, risk, staleness, etc. But with thousands of datapoints, how do you effectively create an overview without having to create massive lists or reports?
Scores! You take multiple data points and conditions, add weighting and generate a score. Its how for vulnerabilities we have things like CVSS and EPSS or how other products do business criticality. Its how you can start your day but looking at the top 10 highest scores rather than waiting until tickets come in.
Today I’ll be showing 3 possible scores you can create and customize to your needs and how you could put it in a dashboard to look at daily or weekly to spot problem devices.
Your inventory is only as good as your last successful scan. An asset that last checked in three weeks ago and has been throwing access denied errors ever since is a problem when you rely on the data from that asset. The Asset Freshness Score workflow gives every asset a score from 0 to 100 based on how well Lansweeper can actually see it. It looks at three things:
By default, a successful scan in the last 3 days gets the full 100 points, and the score drops step by step to 10 once you’re past 30 days. If the asset is failing right now, it loses more points. Errors are sorted into Critical, Major, Partial and Minor tiers, and each tier is capped, so one root cause with a dozen related errors can’t drag the score to zero. The score is written to a custom field, so you can use it in dashboards or custom views.

The Replacement Risk Score workflow is designed to help you with hardware refresh planning. The score combines three factors:
Out of the box, that’s 4 years for Windows workstations, 6 for servers and switches, 5 for printers and monitors, and 3 for everything else. You can tweak all of those in a single variable.
Windows assets are split into workstations and servers automatically based on their domain role. Age comes from the first date available, in this order: purchase date, warranty ship date, hardware general availability date, then first scan date. So even assets without purchase data still get a sensible score. The result goes into a custom field, again, ready for you to use in dashboards or custom views.

The last one is a bit special as it is one that doesn’t just sit within Lansweeper. It actually connects to Intune’s Endpoint Analytics to fetch additional data. The Intune Productivity Loss Score workflow pulls Resource Performance, App Reliability, Startup Performance, Battery Health and Work From Anywhere from the EADeviceScoresV2 report. It blends them into one weighted risk score from 0 to 100 (30/25/20/15/10 by default) and writes it to the matching Lansweeper asset.
To use this workflow, it is required to have the Add additional Intune/EntraID details workflow running as it relies on that to pull in Intune IDs.
Additionally, I opted to create a custom score rather than using Intune’s built-in score. There is a simple reason for that. Microsoft doesn’t explain its logic behind that score and it is not adjustable, meaning if you want startup performance to matter more, you can in the workflow. This means you can spot devices that might be struggling earlier and can proactively take action.
Again, the score is added into a custom field which you can use in dashboards or custom views.

Last but not least is how this fits into a dashboard. Luckily there will also be a template available so you can more easily create this dashboard yourself that includes all this data and lets you inspect the most critical devices first.

Don’t forget you can also set alerts on these dashboards so you can get notified when too many assets become stale or get a replacement risk that is too high. Hopefully all of this makes it managing your environment a bit easier and especially more prioritized.
