Most MSP presentations talk about technology. Christina Klein’s session at SITS talked about survival and what it takes to thrive.

Lansweeper’s VP of Global MSPs took the stage at SITS, Europe’s premier Service Desk and IT Support Show held at ExCel London, for a session that had the room taking notes from the first slide to the last. The title: “Increase Revenue and Efficiency with Cyber Asset Intelligence”

But the real subject was something every MSP leader is quietly grappling with right now: how do you grow a managed services business when the market has fundamentally changed, margins are shrinking, and your teams are already stretched?

The answer is grounded in real data, real MSP stories, and a refreshingly honest look at where the industry is heading.

“Growth Is Harder to Earn.” The MSP Reality in 2026.

The session opens with a statement that every MSP in the audience recognized immediately: demand remains strong, but growth is harder to earn.

The data is sobering and important.

  • 71% of MSPs cite new customer acquisition as their single largest barrier to growth.
  • Larger contracts (over $25k) fell from 75% to just 41% year-over-year: a seismic shift in deal size that’s compressing revenue across the board.
  • Around 16% of MSPs are currently breakeven or unprofitable: a number that should be a wake-up call for anyone who thinks the current model is sustainable.

The message isn’t just doom and gloom. It’s a clear-eyed diagnosis of a market that has matured faster than most business models have adapted. And the MSPs who recognize what’s happening, and adjust, are the ones who will come out the other side stronger.

“Demand remains strong. But growth is harder to earn. If your MSP business is working harder for less, this session explains exactly why… and what to do about it.

The Hidden Margin Killers Nobody Talks About

One of the most valuable sections of Christina’s presentation isn’t about AI, automation, or new service lines. It’s a simple, uncomfortable list of the places where MSP margin quietly disappears every single day.

She calls them the hidden margin killers

  • Fragmented asset visibility across client environments
  • Manual reconciliation between tools that don’t speak to each other
  • Incomplete asset information that creates gaps in service delivery
  • Reactive service delivery that keeps teams in firefighting mode
  • Billing misalignment caused by inaccurate or outdated inventory

Every one of these has the same root cause: MSPs don’t have a complete, accurate, real-time picture of what’s actually in their clients’ environments. And the cost of that blind spot isn’t just a technical inconvenience. It’s eating margin, burning out technicians, and creating the kind of client friction that leads to churn.

The margin problem most MSPs think is a pricing problem is actually a visibility problem.

Not Just Inventory. Cyber Asset Intelligence.

Christina draws a line in this session that reframes how MSPs should think about asset management entirely. Consider:

Static, manual, point-in-time inventory: A spreadsheet. A scan you ran last quarter. A list of devices that’s already out of date the moment you close the file.

Versus

Accurate, automated, contextual Cyber Asset Intelligence: A continuously updated, deeply enriched picture of every asset across every client environment:  IT, OT, IoT, cloud, shadow IT. A living source of truth that doesn’t require a human to maintain it and doesn’t go stale between audits.

The difference between these two things isn’t a feature upgrade. It’s the foundation on which every other service you deliver either stands or wobbles. Automation breaks without accurate asset data. AI is useless without trusted context. Service delivery is reactive instead of proactive. Billing is guesswork instead of precision.

This shift, from inventory to intelligence, is the conceptual shift that underpins everything.

Grow Your Service Catalog. The Only Limit Is Your Creativity

One of the most energizing sections of the presentation is when Christina shows MSPs the sheer breadth of services that become possible when asset intelligence is the foundation.

Martin Dubreuil, Director of Consulting Services at B2B Cyber Secure, puts it perfectly: With Lansweeper, the only limitation is your own creativity.”

Lansweeper’s core service opportunities:

  • Proactive risk assessments and security services
  • Onboarding and discovery-as-a-Service
  • Lifecycle and warranty management
  • CMDB and documentation services
  • License and software optimization
  • IT infrastructure management

…fit perfectly alongside the core services MSPs are already delivering: cybersecurity, cloud migration, backup and disaster recovery, and network management.

The point isn’t that MSPs should try to offer everything at once. It’s that a single, trusted source of cyber asset intelligence unlocks a service catalog that can grow with your clients without requiring you to hire a new person every time you add a new offering.

AI Fits Here, Practically, Not Theoretically

AI is not magic. Fitting AI into the MSP stack requires a grounded, practical approach.

The framework is simple and immediately useful: Data → Intelligence → Automation. Collected data becomes trusted, contextual intelligence. Trusted intelligence makes AI and automation safe to run at scale.

Without the data foundation, AI makes unsafe assumptions. It encounters unknown or unmanaged devices. It drifts between tools. It confidently automates the wrong things.

With the right Cyber Asset Intelligence underneath it, AI becomes genuinely transformative: automated discovery across every environment, asset classification and enrichment without manual effort.  Change detection without audits, pattern recognition at MSP scale, technical documentation and report creation that used to take hours is now done in minutes.

AI is only as good as the data it runs on. Get the data right first.

Scale Without Adding Headcount

The question Christina hears from MSPs more than any other: How do we grow without just hiring more people?”

The answer is practical and specific. When asset intelligence is accurate and automated, the downstream effects across operations are significant:

  • Less manual reconciliation: technicians stop wasting time cross-referencing tools that don’t agree with each other.
  • Fewer escalations: tickets are enriched automatically with asset context, so first-line support has what they need to resolve issues faster.
  • Faster MTTR: Mean Time to Repair drops when the team isn’t spending the first 20 minutes of every incident figuring out what they’re actually dealing with.
  • Reduced technician burnout: automation handles the repetitive, low-value tasks that grind people down, freeing up skilled engineers for the work that actually requires their expertise.

For ITSM, RMM, and CMDB specifically, Cyber Asset Intelligence enriches each of these systems rather than replacing them.

  • Tickets enriched automatically with accurate asset data.
  • RMM tools paired with the discovery context and validation they need to execute reliably.
  • CMDBs that stay updated through automated scanning rather than manual effort.

The Three Things to Take Away From This Session

Christina closes with three statements that serve as the framework for everything she’s covered:

  1. Growth demands precision. The days of winning on volume and hoping the economics work out are over. MSPs who grow profitably in 2026 are the ones who know exactly what’s in their environments, what it costs to service, and where the margin is.
  1. AI needs trusted asset intelligence to deliver value. Automation and AI are not plug-and-play. They are amplifiers and what they amplify depends entirely on the quality of the data underneath them.
  1. Visibility is the new MSP differentiator. In a market where most services are commoditized, the MSPs who can see everything, prove everything, and automate everything have a structural advantage that is genuinely hard to replicate.

What Does This Look Like for Your MSP Business?

Asset intelligence, AI-powered automation, a growing service catalog, and proof of value in every QBR,… The framework is clear. The question is what it looks like inside your specific environments, with your specific clients, and your specific growth goals.

Our MSP team would love to have that conversation. Book a call and let’s explore what total visibility means for you.
