From Windows 10 to Windows 11, 2000+ Devices: Qarmet’s IT Infrastructure Upgrade Journey

Learn how Qarmet streamlined their Windows 10 to Windows 11 upgrade on over 2000 devices with Lansweeper.

Qarmet is a leading company in the manufacturing and mining industry, operating across Kazakhstan with a workforce of over 40,000 employees and managing more than 10,000 IT assets. As part of its digital transformation, Qarmet faced a major challenge—migrating thousands of devices from Windows 10 to Windows 11 before the October 2025 End-of-Life (EOL) deadline.

“I had a report on my desk showing that 1,200 PCs needed immediate replacement. Over the next three months, we needed to act fast.”

Racing Against the Clock to Upgrade 2,000+ Devices
Move thousands of devices to Windows 11 before the 2025 deadline without disrupting operations.
Nearly half of devices still on Windows 10, many not upgrade-ready
No clear view of what needs to be replaced or upgraded
Tight timelines for budgeting and execution
Complex coordination across remote sites
The Result
Crippling time pressure, operational risk, and uncertainty in planning a large-scale migration.
Smart, Data-Driven Upgrade Planning
Lansweeper gave Qarmet the visibility and insights needed to plan and execute their migration efficiently.
Clear inventory of all devices and their upgrade readiness
Identified the hardware gaps blocking Windows 11 adoption
Data-backed reporting to speed up budget approvals
Prioritized critical teams to reduce disruption
The Payoff
A faster upgrade executed before the deadline, fewer disruptions, and stronger security and compliance.

Managing IT infrastructure across a vast and distributed organization is a constant challenge. For Alexandr Chsherbov, Head of Infrastructure at Qarmet, overseeing IT operations, security, and upgrade planning across multiple regions in Kazakhstan meant navigating complex logistics and ensuring business continuity. With the help of Lansweeper, Qarmet’s IT team:

  • Successfully identified over 2,000 devices for upgrade or replacement.
  • Accelerated budget approvals by presenting compliance and security risks.
  • Minimized operational disruptions by prioritizing mission-critical teams.
  • Strengthened cybersecurity by phasing out unsupported systems.
  • Improved IT asset visibility for better planning and more efficient upgrade execution.

The Challenge: A Large-Scale, Time-Sensitive Migration

With the Windows 10 End-of-Life (EOL) deadline approaching in October 2025, Chsherbov’s team faced a massive upgrade project: transitioning over 2,000 devices from Windows 10 to Windows 11 while ensuring smooth operations. Nearly 50% of the company’s devices were still running Windows 10, with many unable to support Windows 11 due to hardware limitations. In mere months they had to:

  • Identify all outdated devices that required replacement.
  • Plan and budget for a large-scale hardware refresh.
  • Ensure security & compliance throughout the transition.
  • Coordinate logistics across multiple mining and manufacturing sites spread across vast distances in Kazakhstan.

The Solution: Leveraging Lansweeper for Accurate Inventory & Planning

To efficiently manage the upgrade, Qarmet used Lansweeper’s IT asset discovery and reporting capabilities to generate a detailed inventory of all Windows 10 devices and determine which could be upgraded versus replaced. “With Lansweeper, we generated a special report showing exactly which computers should be removed and replaced.”Chsherbov said, “This helped us present clear data to secure budget approvals.” They identified hardware limitations related to CPU, RAM, and storage that prevented Windows 11 migration.

The team also developed a structured upgrade plan prioritizing critical departments like finance, purchasing, and operations. By using Lansweeper, they provided concrete data to justify budget approvals and highlight security risks and compliance issues.

The Results: A Smoother, More Strategic Upgrade Process

By using Lansweeper, Qarmet was able to accurately assess more than 2,000 devices for upgrades or replacements. The team sped up budget approvals by demonstrating compliance and security risks and reduced downtime by prioritizing critical departments. Additionally, by eliminating outdated, unsupported systems they strengthened their cybersecurity posture and improved compliance. Chsherbov added “Auditors like KPMG reinforced our case for the upgrade, but Lansweeper provided the hard data we needed to make the right decisions.”

Lessons Learned & Future Plans

Having successfully managed past IT migrations, Chsherbov’s team was well-prepared. However, user resistance and data migration challenges remained, as employees storing files locally instead of in the cloud led to delays in system replacements.

To improve future IT upgrades, Qarmet plans to implement proactive lifecycle management to avoid last-minute migrations. They will mandate cloud-based storage to prevent data loss during system transitions and continue leveraging Lansweeper for ongoing infrastructure assessments and upgrade planning.

“With Lansweeper, we don’t have to guess. We have full visibility into our IT estate, helping us plan upgrades smarter and faster.”
