Rentokil Initial is a British business services company specializing in pest control, hygiene, and interior landscaping services. Founded in 1925, the company has grown to operate in approximately 90 countries worldwide and employs over 60,000 people globally.
As a global leader with a vast IT infrastructure, Rentokil manages a complex network of assets, including laptops, Chromebooks, and servers spread across multiple locations. And, with approximately 26,000 IT assets in use worldwide, visibility, security, and compliance are top priorities.
To address these challenges, Rentokil has relied on Lansweeper for more than seven years as their primary discovery tool to populate their Configuration Management Database (CMDB) within ServiceNow. Lansweeper provides them with complete visibility into all hardware and software assets, which enables them to track patching and compliance, enhance security monitoring, and manage the complexity of their growing IT estate.
Before adopting Lansweeper, Rentokil faced several IT asset management challenges, the biggest being limited IT visibility. Tracking thousands of IT assets across multiple locations was cumbersome and unreliable. This was a problem for numerous reasons:
“With all the different data centers we run across the globe, there are virtual servers being spun up and decommissioned or recommissioned at various times throughout the year,” said Dave Turner, Global Asset and Configuration Manager at Rentokil Initial. “We weren’t able to keep track and, very often, we would see machines coming online way before anybody ever told us about them.”
To overcome these challenges, Rentokil needed a centralized, automated solution that could provide real-time visibility into its entire IT infrastructure, accurately track assets across global locations, and provide proactive security monitoring using complete and always-accurate IT asset data. Lansweeper was the logical solution.
For Rentokil, Lansweeper has been instrumental in enhancing IT visibility, streamlining patch management, and improving security compliance. Specifically, it helped them to meet the SOX requirements for financial reporting. The company has also leveraged Lansweeper to identify vulnerabilities, track assets, and support major IT transitions, such as migrating from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
By integrating Lansweeper’s data feeds with other IT systems, Rentokil gained a comprehensive view of its IT estate, allowing infrastructure teams, hosting teams, IT service desks, and security teams to access up-to-date asset information on demand.
One of the biggest challenges Rentokil faced was tracking newly deployed or decommissioned virtual servers across its numerous data centers worldwide. With Lansweeper’s subnet scanning, Rentokil gains real-time visibility into IT assets before they are even reported by users.
“We weren’t able to keep track of virtual servers and newly commissioned assets until we deployed Lansweeper. Now, we see new machines instantly, long before anyone even tells us about them”
Lansweeper provides comprehensive discovery capabilities across IT, OT, IoT, and cloud environments, creating a detailed inventory of all IT assets ranging from Windows, Linux, and Mac workstations to servers, virtual machines, printers and more. It automatically detects new machines as soon as they come online, updating Rentokil’s CMDB immediately and flagging any potential security or compliance issues.
Using Lansweeper, Rentokil can proactively identify any untracked devices, mitigate potential security risks, and maintain compliance with frameworks like SOX.
With Windows 10 reaching its end-of-life on October 14, 2025, businesses have been steadily migrating to Windows 11 and Rentokil is no exception. As the deadline approached, Rentokil needed to identify which devices required upgrades, replacements, or decommissioning.
Instead of sifting through incomplete data from traditional device management tools, the IT team used Lansweeper’s Windows 11 Readiness Report to quickly determine:
By eliminating guesswork and inefficiencies with Lansweeper, Rentokil was able to execute a smooth migration with minimal downtime, reducing security risks and unnecessary costs.
“With Lansweeper, we provided the IT service desk with precise numbers, including all of the affected devices, which ones were eligible for the upgrade, and who was using them. Without this data, the transition would have been much slower and more difficult.”
By automating IT asset discovery, patch assessments, and system monitoring with Lansweeper, Rentokil has significantly enhanced its ability to track vulnerabilities and maintain compliance, as well as support large-scale IT projects like Windows 11 migration.
“For us, Lansweeper is not only about visibility and transparency – it’s also about security,” Dave emphasized. “It allows us to monitor, assess, and secure our IT infrastructure globally in ways we simply couldn’t before.”
Rentokil plans to transition fully to Lansweeper’s Cloud platform in the near future, further reducing infrastructure costs and improving flexibility. By shifting from an on-premises model to a cloud-based approach, they’ll be able to:
Using the Lansweeper Cloud platform, Rentokil’s 130+ IT professionals across the globe can independently retrieve the data they need, when they need it, eliminating bottlenecks and enabling faster decision-making.
“We’re only scratching the surface of what Lansweeper can do,” Dave said. “There’s a wealth of data available that we haven’t even tapped into yet, which gives us a clear roadmap for adding even more value.”
