What is GlobalProtect?

Palo Alto Networks’ GlobalProtect is a secure remote access solution designed to connect users safely to enterprise networks from any location or device. It establishes encrypted VPN tunnels between endpoints and Palo Alto firewalls, ensuring that all traffic is inspected and protected according to corporate security policies.

GlobalProtect consists of several key components including portals for user authentication, gateways that manage connections, and the GlobalProtect app that enforces security on endpoints. Together, these elements create a unified framework for maintaining visibility, compliance, and consistent security across hybrid and remote environments.

GlobalProtect Life Cycle

There is no fixed release or retirement schedule for GlobalProtect. New major versions tend to release every 6 ~12 months, with minor maintenance updates in between as needed. Major releases are supported for about 3 years for the most recent releases. For major releases, Palo Alto Networks offers customer support and security fixes until the end-of-life date. However, new feature updates and bug fixes are only released until the end-of-engineering date.
