Version 8.6 of Palo Alto Networks Cortex XDR Agent will be reaching its end-of-life date on July 13th, 2025. In order to avoid running outdated and unsupported versions, make sure to update any installations you have to a supported version.
Palo Alto Cortex XDR Agent is an advanced endpoint security solution designed to protect endpoints from sophisticated attacks. It is part of Palo Alto Networks’ Cortex XDR platform, which provides extended detection and response (XDR) across multiple security layers, including endpoints, network, cloud, and identity. The platform uses behavioral analytics to detect threats and digs for the root cause to speed up containment, investigations, and response times, minimizing the impact of attacks.
Cortex XDR Agent Life Cycle
Major feature releases of Cortex XDR receive support for 9 months. This includes technical support (at Palo Alto Networks reasonable discretion), minor feature releases, content updates, workarounds and bug fixes. Once a release goes and of life after 9 months, all support ends.
The situation is slightly different for critical environment releases (CE). These releases are supported for 24 months. However, as CE releases are designed to be installed in sensitive and highly regulated environments, they receive only minimal changes in order to retain their stability. This means they will only receive the most critical updates like critical bug-fixes for high-severity issues.

Cortex XDR Agent 8.6 End of Life
On the 13th of July 2025, version 8.6 of Cortex XDR agent will be going end of life. In order to keep receiving support and updates, make sure to update any installations you have to a supported version. At the time of writing, the newest version is 8.8. Aside from still being supported, version 8.8 also includes some new features and updates, including but not limited to:
- Support for Cipher-Suite for ENS Spain
- Automatically generated recommendations for alert/issue exceptions
- Various performance improvements

Cortex XDR Agent 8.5 End of Life
Cortex XDR agent version 8.5 will be going end of life on the 21st of April 2025. Make sure to update your installations to a supported version in order to continue receiving support and updates. At the time of writing, the newest version is 8.7. Aside from still being supported, version 8.7 also includes some new features, like:
- Protection against security bypass techniques
- Protection against malicious ASP and ASPX files
- Performance improvements
