In response to multiple issues caused by January’s Patch Tuesday, Microsoft released new updates for almost all supported Windows operating systems.
In the last week, reports have been coming in of multiple issues with Microsoft’s latest updates, like much of the world, Microsoft’s QA department seems to have taken some time off for the holidays resulting in issues with VPN connectivity, Windows server domain controllers restarting by themselves, VMs failing to start and ReFS-formatted removable media failing to mount after installing last week’s Patch Tuesday.
Most out-of-band updates are available through Windows Update, but only as an optional update. Updates for Windows 8.1/Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2012 are only available using the Microsoft Update Catalog.
