Neil, Senior Technical Analyst at the Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Thanks to Lansweeper, the Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust always has a clear and detailed view of its IT assets. Even when it’s dealing with thousands of devices, spread over 65 sites.

The Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) provides mental health, substance misuse, learning disability and community physical health services. These services are provided in partnership with commissioners, local authorities, voluntary and independent organizations, people who use CWP’s services and carers. The Trust provides services in the English counties of Cheshire and Wirral, but also in Liverpool, Sefton, Bolton, Warrington, Halton, and Trafford. CWP has around 15,000 foundation trust members, employs more than 3,400 staff across 65 sites and serves a population of over a million people.

“Spread over these 65 sites, we manage thousands of devices”, said Neil, Senior Technical Analyst at the Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. “We have broadband connections and high-speed links, allowing us to scan all of the assets from the central Lansweeper scanning server. We manage the assets on a variety of levels, including hardwaresoftwarelicense management, compliance, and maintenance. Among other things, we produce reports in Lansweeper, showing that we are compliant with the agreements we have with software vendors.”

Rich Content Reports

CWP uses Lansweeper for both day-to-day IT Asset Management purposes and continuous service improvement projects. “When I started on this job, one of the first questions I received from the Trust, was to check how many assets we have in use”, Neil continued. “Obviously, Lansweeper was the perfect solution to find the answer to that question. Even without any training, I managed to pinpoint the exact number of assets with the Lansweeper software. It was, in fact, quite easy to set that up. And whenever I had a question, all I had to do was check with the service desk or the online forum. All my questions got answered within a couple of hours.”

Lansweeper allowed Neil to offer the NHS a concise report, not only stating the number of assets in use but adding information about their age and the software they were running. “I’ve kept using Lansweeper ever since. At first, it was more of a discovery solution for me but, over time, Lansweeper has become a fundamental part of our IT scope.”

Crucial Role in IT Projects

Lansweeper helps CWP find the information that is needed during the planning and execution of IT projects. “Some time ago, we had quite a big Windows update project”, Neil explained. “Lansweeper played a vital part in that project. It allowed us to know how many PCs we had at every single site and what their age profile was. Based on that information, we set up a detailed rollout of the new operating system. We also had information about every last  logged-on user, so we knew exactly which employees in which departments would be affected by the project.”

At the same time, Lansweeper allowed CWP to determine which PCs needed replacement prior to the rollout. Among other things, the software showed which workstations were too old to run the new operating system. “But honestly”, Neil concluded, “the Windows update project is just an example. I have project managers coming up to me all the time, with questions about the assets in use on a specific site, or even about specific PCs. That proves how helpful Lansweeper really is for us.
