MAP Toolkit is in 'Maintenance Mode'

The Microsoft MAP tool is a mapping tool that takes inventory of all your systems through a network-wide automated discovery option. At Inspire 2019, Microsoft announced that development will be ending for MAP toolkit. This presents organizations relying on it with a serious problem. There’s no longer a guarantee that the output it provides will be accurate. In time, it’s reasonable to assume that Microsoft will retire it entirely. The announcement at Inspire mentioned that it has funding for another year – but beyond that, the future is uncertain.

Covering Non-Microsoft Scenarios

MAP’s main focus has always been providing a sufficiently accurate picture of their Microsoft estate, in order to enable informed decisions. However, it has never provided coverage for some key non-Microsoft scenarios such as Citrix, Apple Mac, Linux, and network devices. It’s tool for Microsoft estates enhanced with a collection of Microsoft-specific reports. If you’re looking for a complete IT Inventory to tackle other scenarios, this is where your attention should turn towards an alternative.
