A subsidiary of Del Technologies, VMware, Inc. is an American computer software company that designs and develops cloud computing and platform virtualization software. Currently headquartered in Palo Alto, California, the company was founded in 1998 by Diane Green, Mendel Rosenblum, Scott Devine, Ellen Wang, and Edouard Bugnion.

Their software including the desktop software is designed to run on computers installed with Microsoft Windows, macOS or Linux. On the other hand, their enterprise software called the VMware ESXi is made for servers and runs on server hardware directly without an underlying OS. This software integrates into the vCenter, which offers users extra services.
