CentOS

CentOS is a Linux-based operating system distribution that comes from the Community Enterprise Operating System. The CentOS project provides a free, enterprise-class, community-supported platform compatible with its upstream source. The first ever CentOS release as CentOS version 2 that was derived from RHEL version 2.1AS happened in May 2004.

Since then, the project has released many versions and their variants installed with different features. The Linux-based operating system is targeted for commercial and consumer use for desktops, mainframes, servers, and workstations. In 2014, the company announced an affiliation with Red Hat, Inc with the objective of making CentOS more public, inclusive, and open.
