When you link your local Lansweeper installation with your Cloud site, your asset data is sent up to the cloud. This includes your scanned software data. Within Cloud, you can not only view your software data as it was scanned, but you can also opt to see a standardized software view. Using machine learning, Cloud standardizes software names, publishers and version numbers. For instance, where a Google software product may have its publisher listed as "Google LLC" or the older "Google Inc" in Add/Remove Programs, Cloud will standardize all of these publisher names to "Google".
This article explains how the feature can be enabled and where a list of standardized software can be found in Cloud: on asset pages, under the Software menu, in reports, and in API data. The software standardization feature is currently in a preview phase. It's possible to quickly toggle between standardized and scanned software on individual asset pages and in the global Software menu. For reports and the API though, standardization must be globally toggled.
Enabling the standardized software feature on your site for reports and the API
As a site owner, you can enable software standardization under Configuration\Site settings
by using the Enable standardized software on my site
ON/OFF toggle button. After enabling this feature, a progress bar appears, indicating the progress of the standardization process for reports. All reports are sent to the running queue. Once this process is complete, all reports will return standardized software data.
Viewing standardized software
Standardized software views can be found in the below locations in Cloud.
Software menu and asset pages
When the standardized software feature is enabled, the normal non-standardized list of scanned software will still be displayed under the general Software
menu and under the Software tab of individual asset pages. There's a toggle available in both locations to turn the standardized view on or off. This toggle can be used even if the standardized software feature is disabled.
Reports and API
When the standardized software feature is first enabled, report results won't be updated immediately, as the reports are sent to the running queue. The progress of this standardization process is displayed under Configuration\Site settings
. Once completed, reports under the Reports
menu will display a standardized list of software.
API data will however contain standardized software immediately after enabling this feature.
