One of the biggest challenges facing IT administrators today is to get an accurate picture of their IT environment and in particular the machines, users and software contained within. Universal Inventory is an optional compliment to Lansweeper that allows you to further facilitate this process.
What Universal Inventory (UI) is
UI is a Microsoft tool that consolidates IT infrastructure data collected through various platforms, including Lansweeper. UI is an optional compliment to your Lansweeper installation that allows you to expand on collected information, consolidate asset and user records across multiple sources and enrich data through normalization services. This aggregated data can then be used for a variety of purposes, including software compliance audits. It can also easily be refreshed. No data leaves the UI tool or is sent to third parties unless specified by the IT administrator.
What LsExport is
LsExport is a tool developed by Lansweeper that exports scanned Lansweeper data to Microsoft Universal Inventory. Once in UI, the data is consolidated so a single record exists for a machine or user found across multiple data sources. Optional normalization also ensures that software, publisher and other naming conventions are respected. Consolidation and normalization of multiple data sources happens through UI and not LsExport itself. LsExport's sole purpose is to push Lansweeper data to UI.
