The company was founded in 1950 in Tegoshi in the city of Shizuoka, Japan as Star Manufacturing Co., Ltd. to manufacture and distribute camera parts and wrist watches.
Since then, Star Micronics has expanded into designing and developing other electronic components including miniature components, automatic lathes, printers, scanners, micro audio components, precision products, visual card readers/writers, and other related products. The company is still headquartered in Shizuoka and has offices in other parts of Tokyo that sell products in Asia, Europe, and North America through a global distribution network.
