SmoothWall is a Linux distribution is open-source software that is designed to be used as a firewall. The developing company is currently based in the UK and develops solutions for web content filtering, and internet security solutions along with SmoothWall. The firewall was first designed and distributed in August 2000 under the name Smoothwall GPL, which as a freely redistributable.
Along with that, the company also provided a proprietary version of the firewall which was sold by the name Smoothwall Ltd. The firewall is designed by its developers to be user-friendly and only requires minimal knowledge of Linux OS to install and operate.
