Red Hat Enterprise Linux, unofficially abbreviated as RHEL, is a Linux distribution that is developed by Red Hat, Inc. The operating system distribution was first released in 2000 in the market as Red Hat Linux Advances Server. The OS is released in server versions for x86, x86-64, PowerPC, IBM System z, and Itanium. The Linux distribution is also available in desktops versions for x86 and x86064. All Red Hat Enterprise Linux distributions are targeted towards users in the commercial market for mainframe, server, and supercomputer applications. The OS variants are also available for students and schools that are less expensive and are provided with technical support.
