Based on the Debian operating system, Raspbian is an open source Unix-like computer operating system developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. Several versions of the operating system including Raspbian Jessie and Raspbian Stretch are developed for the Raspberry Pi single-board computers.
The Raspbian operating system was developed by Peter Green and Mike Thompson as an independent project, with the initial build completed in June 2012. The developers design the RaspbianOS to be optimized for the Raspberry Pi’s low-performance ARM processing units. The latest update uses PIXEL for its main desktop environment and the distribution is shipped with Minecraft Pi, an algebra program called Mathematica, and a lightweight version of Chromium.
