Formerly known as Northern Telecom Limited, Nortel Networks Corporation was a telecommunications and networking equipment manufacturer. The company was founded in 1895 by Bell Canada in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to build phones for other companies. It’s products had a notable presence in the US, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

The company then moved headquarters to Ottawa, Ontario and diversified into producing other networking and telecommunication equipment. The company provided products and software to landline telephones, cable TV, and mobile phone communication carriers and general businesses. Their portfolio included products such as telephonic voice equipment, fiber optics, multimedia, local wireless, routers, telephone systems, switching systems, and software.
