The company was founded in 1865 as a pulp mill by Fredrik Idestam, Leo Mechelin, and Eduard Polon. Since then, the company diversified to manufacture a variety of products and eventually entered into the manufacture of cell phones. Currently, the company is headquartered in Espoo, Finland and has several subsidies that produce specialized products.
