Maxtor Corporation was founded by James McCoy, Jack Swartz, and Raymond Niedzwiecki in 1981 to manufacture hard disk drives. The company was headquarters in Milpitas in California, the USA with operations also present in San Jose. In a few years after its inception, the company expanded their capacity and quickly became the third largest hard disk drive manufacturer in the world.
However, in 2006 Maxtor was acquired by Seagate Technology in a deal worth 2 billion American dollars. Currently, the company exists as a part of the Seagate brand and manufactures external and portable hard disk drives under the Maxtor name.
