Mac OS X, macOS or OS X is a range of closed source (with open source components) graphical operating systems developed by Apple, Inc. for its Macintosh family of computers. The earliest version of the operating system was developed in 1985 by NeXt, a company Steve Jobs founded after his departure from Apple.

That Unix-like OS later became macOS and was first ever released on March 24th in 2001. This operating system is the primary OS for Apple’s computers, desktops, laptops, home computers, and web usage. Currently, macOS X is the second most widely used operating system around the world after Microsoft’s Windows.
