Founded in 1985 on a farm in rural Sioux City, Iowa, USA, Gateway, Inc. was founded by Ted Waitt and Mike Hammond as Gateway 2000. After becoming one of the first few successful companies to direct sale PCS, Gateway was acquired by Acer, Inc. in 2009 for 710 million dollars.
During its active time, the company designed, developed, manufactured, and sold a wide range of computer hardware products including personal computers, monitors, laptops, servers, desktops, and other computer peripherals. Besides these, the company also produced consumer electronics such as plasma screen TV, routers, DLP projectors, digital cameras, and MP3 players.
