A product of Google LLC, Chromecast is a line of media players that was first conceived by engineer Majd Bakar and released in July 2013. The Chromecast devices are designed as small dongles that can be attached to a variety of mobile and personal computer systems. These media players allow users to stream high-quality playback of internet-based audio/video content through apps that support Google Cast technology.
After the initial release of the device, several variations were launched including an audio-only version called Chromecast Audio and another version that supported 4K resolution and high-dynamic range called Chromecast Ultra, among others.
