Known globally for their computer networking products, 3Com Corporation is an electronics manufacturing company. It was founded by Ethernet co-inverter Robert Metcalf in 1979, who explained the name as a contraction of Computer Communication Compatibility. Since then it had provided the computing technology industry with various technically advanced and innovative products like routers, network interface controllers as switches, IP voice systems, wireless access point or WAP and intrusion prevention systems. Over the course of its individual operations, 3Com gained a sizeable market in China and other Asian countries, slowly moving towards Europe and the Americas. In 2010 3Com was acquired by Hewlett-Packard.
