Lansweeper workgroup scanning requirements.

1) The scanning account must be an administrator on the scanned computers.

You need a common username/password combination on all workgroup computers, in this example we create a user "lsremoteuser" and added it to the administrators group on all workstation computers.

2) Configure the Windows Firewall to enable remote administration.

This script can configure the necessary DCOM and windows firewall settings: download script

3) Configure any third party firewalls you might have to enable Windows remote administration.

4) Only necessary for Windows Vista and Windows 7 computers in a workgroup: Disable UAC

More info on this link: Handling_remote_connections_under_uac

  • Optionally you can disable UAC for remote administrator only:
    Start "regedit.exe"
    Go to key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\system
    Create new Dword value: LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy
    Set LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy to "1"

  • Set Classic security model:
    Start/run "secpol.msc"
    Navigate to Local Policies\Security Options
Network Access: Sharing security model for local accounts - Set to Classic
    Restart the computer.

5) Configure workgroup scanning for your workgroup.

6) Workgroup computers must be visible in the network browser.
