vCenter doesn't appear as an asset when scanned using either the vmware type or the SSH type.
I'm using the vCenter Linux appliance.

Any help would be appreciated, or is LanSweeper incapable of creating an asset for vCenter and I have to manually create one?

Using LanSweeper version 6.0.100.29

FYI the original post was done in April, so vCenter scanning wasn't available back then.

The related knowledgebase articles for vCenter scanning can be found here:

looks like for the vSphere part the account that was needed was an account that can log into vSphere through the vSphere portal.
but we are having an issue with one of the ESXi servers I am thinking it is a port configuration problem

From what I understand This has now changed with version 7 and you can now scan your vCenter environment, looking at the information on Lansweepers page https://www.lansweeper.com/lansweeper-7/?utm_source=Newsletter+Lansweeper&utm_campaign=c6f46968a6-2018-09-02_LANSWEEPER7_NEWSLETTER&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_895693cdc1-c6f46968a6-57388633

Do I understand this correctly? I am trying to get it to work but I'm having issues do I need to install the new Lansweeper tool on the vCenter server to get it to scan correctly?

ESXi servers are recognized as "Wmware servers" but the VCenter itself is not correctly recognized.

My Vcenter appliances are recognized as "Webserver" on my Lansweeper server (6.0.130.48).

I think it's what jake.nelson was referring to.

Unfortunately, Lansweeper is currently not able to retrieve any data from vCenter. However, there are quite some customers also interested in this feature and we do have plans to implement this in a future release but for now we cannot provide you with an expected implementation date.

The current "workaround" is to scan the data from the MOB (Managed Object Browser) directly. To do so, follow the steps in the following knowledge base articles:
  • Making sure you meet the requirements - https://www.lansweeper.com/kb/157/vmware-server-scanning-requirements.html
  • How to scan VMWare - https://www.lansweeper.com/kb/156/how-to-scan-a-vmware-server.html
I also recommend updating your installation to the latest version. Instructions can be found here: https://www.lansweeper.com/kb/118/updating-your-installation.html
