We must collect inventory data from some sites which are connected via VPN but they have no AD integration with the main company AD (one could say another forest).

As I understand I can install only the service on this site with a user who has admin privilege on the clients at this site. This service can point to the central LS DB.

During the installation I am asked to enter the adress of the database. After that I get an error massage that Named Pipes, TCP/IP and SQL Browser Service must be running. All this configuration items I have done. The central database machine is reachable by ping.

Could you please light up the communication between this service and the central database server (ports and so on) because I'm afraid that we have a firewall issue. Are there also additional checks which could clarify this problem?

Are you connecting with SQL authentication when you do the installation of the service in the other domain?

I don't remember that there was a question during the installation. But I decided to use integrated security at the main side - and maybe this is the problem. If yes, how do I change to SQL authentication or mixed mode (I use SQL express)?

I see the problem : the installer is trying to connect to the database with NT authentication.
This behavior will be changed in our next installer.

Am I the first who tries this feature Eh? ??

But thinking this issue over: When does the local db user "lssqluser32" comes into the game? Is this user always used? Can I change the password for this user at the sql console and enter same password into lansweeperservice.exe.config?

1) Probably not
2) Yes, you can change it without a problem if you edit the config files.

Copy your current service folder to the other server.

Install the service with http://www.lansweeper.com/debug/srvinstw.zip

1. O.K.

2. O.K. but trying to start the service ends up with

Event-ID: 7000: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

LSService.exe.config:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<configuration><appSettings><add key="ConnectionString" value="Persist Security Info=False;Data Source=12.12.120.159\sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=Lansweeper32;User ID=lssqluser32;Password=topsecret"/><add key="ConcurrentThreads" value="10"/><add key="ListenPort" value="9524"/><add key="Activescanning" value="0"/></appSettings></configuration>

Any idea??

Is your service called : lansweeperservice.exe, then your config file should be lansweeperservice.exe.config.

What were the options that you choose when installing?

I did it in the same manner like at the central instance:

Display-Name of Service: Lansweeper Service (during srvinstw installation procedure)
Name of service.exe: Lansweeperservice.exe (copied from the central instance with active scanning)
Name of config-file: Lansweeperservice.exe.config

Yes sorry, srvinstw.exe.

When you installed with srvinstw.exe, what options did you choose?
