Hello all,

Finally getting around to adding asset tags and things into the database, and we are seeing an interesting thing. When the computer is scanned, the correct monitor is automatically created and linked to that asset. We would like to change the name of the monitor so that we can easily identify it from the asset list instead of a generic name. We have gone through and changed the Asset Name of the monitors to something we can identify, and the "lock against scanning" box is checked. However, if we rescan the computer, this monitor will become unlinked, a new monitor will be added with the original generic name, and that monitor will be linked. We would then have to go back into each and every monitor we have renamed and readd the asset tag and location we have put into the custom fields.

Is there any way to tell the scan to ignore the monitor name and look for serial numbers? It is pulling the right unique serial number, as they are listed in the Duplicate Serial Number report.

Thanks,

Alex

If you haven't already, could you update to the latest Lansweeper release (5.3.0.31) by following these instructions and see if the issue persists. If a new asset is generated when you manually edit the monitor, this is because the internal ID of the monitor asset changed when you edited its name, which shouldn't happen. I believe this behavior was a bug in a previous Lansweeper release. The internal ID of a monitor asset is a combination of the monitor manufacturer and serial, as documented here.

We had been on 5.3.0.31 when posting, but updated to 5.3.0.33 today. The issue seems to only appear on some of the first assets we entered. The monitors now stick with their new names, but we will have to go through and change some of the ones we did in the beginning. Thanks!
