I created a new asset state called "Decommissioned" that identifies computers discharged and taken to the store for recycling, I have also created a new date custom field to assign the date of deregistration.

Is it possible that when we change the state of the computer to "Decommissioned", automatically the new date custom field is filled with today's date?

Logging of asset state changed is on our wish-list. Currently this won't be automatically stored. However, if you set the data type of the date custom field to "Date" it will be a 2-click action to set the date to today while changing the asset state. Data types of custom fields can be defined under Configuration\Asset pages, section Asset custom fields.
